A Must Read for WordPress webmasters

Some people think that building a web site that runs a WordPress installation is easy. In our experience that could not be further from reality. With WordPress, by far, the most installed content management system on the web, more and more hackers are doing what they do best with to wordpress core, themes and especially plugins.

With all of the web sites that we monitor we will check in from time to time, even if it’s not required, but it’s shocking to me how often I will log in to one of the sites that we manage and see that updates are available (again). If you are managing a WordPress web site and are not logging in AND making sure your theme, plugins and core installation are updated at least once a week then you are just asking for your web site to be compromised. Don’t take it personally, hackers do it because it’s just what they do.

Take this advise and to go even further we recommend a few plugins that can help:

Sucuri Security – Auditing, Malware Scanner and Security Hardening

Wordfence Security

Rublon Account Security: Two-Factor Auth+

These are all free and have additional features as paid options. The free versions are fine for most but you should read more about the premium options.
